Close Knit in July

Hi!

Close Knit, 2-4pm, July 29th
at
The Galley of Costume
Platt Hall, Platt Fields, Rusholme M14 6LA
This month we will be continuing to be inspired by the super chic Mary Quant and create a sixties style head-band. This lacy design uses a super summery stitch pattern that could be adapted for shawls or light scarves. This lovely head band knits up very quickly and would make a fabulous last minute gift.
Knitted in just 10g of DK yarn on 4mm dpns or a 4mm hat-sized circular needle, this pattern is perfect for using up odd scraps of yarn.
Bring your own if you prefer, but all materials are provided in this free and friendly workshop.

Hope to see you then!

June Close Knit

Close Knit, 2-4pm, June 24th at The Galley of Costume, Platt Hall, Platt Fields, Rusholme M14 6LA
This month we will be looking at another of Mary Quant’s beautiful gowns and drawing inspiration from a purse-like pocket detail. We will create miniature purses, suitable for carrying buttons, stitch markers and row counters-just what we need!
The purse is worked in the round using 2.75mm needles and 4ply/sock/sport weight yarn. If you have leftover yarn, this project only needs about 40 or 50 yards so could use up those odds and ends. Don’t worry if not, all materials are provided in this free and friendly workshop!

Hope to see you then!

Close Knit May

Close Knit Workshop

The Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall, Rusholme

Saturday 27th May

2pm-4pm

This session we will be inspired by a fascinating exhibition at the Gallery of Costume’s sister gallery, Manchester Art Gallery. ‘South Asian Design’ celebrates design aesthetic of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and we will be celebrating in our own way by learning a great stitch pattern called ‘Indian Cross Stitch’. This is a beautiful and simple stitch which can be easily achieved by beginners and appreciated by experts! We will be using it to make a stylish scarf.

The pattern can be made in yarn from fine four ply to aran, using the appropriate sized needles, so if you have any yarn to use up please bring it along.

Close Knit is a free and friendly group and all materials and equipment is provided.

Hope you can join us!

Close Knit April

Saturday 29th April,

2-4pm, The Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall, Rusholme.

Please join us for this month’s Close Knit when we will be making a simple but very effective spiral scarf, inspired by an interesting detail on one of the wonderful Mary Quant dresses that are currently on display in the gallery.

The scarf can be knitted in any gauge of yarn, but will look great and knit up quickly in a chunky yarn, so if you have any available in your stash, bring it along with the needles to match.

Close knit is a free and friendly group and all materials are provided. Hope you can make it!

Hope you can make it!

November’s Close Knit in December

PLEASE NOTE! NOVEMBER’S CLOSE KNIT WILL BE IN DECEMBER.

November’s Close Knit will be a week later than the usual last Saturday of the month, taking place instead on the 3rd December.

The Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall, Platt Fields, Rusholme
Dec 3rd, 2-4pm

This Christmas special, we will be creating really cute 3D Christmas trees for use as tree, table or cake decorations! There are several designs, some easier than others, including ones with colour-work and cables. Small amounts of any yarn can be used. The trunks are corks which will be provided but if you want to use this as an excuse to start your mulling early, feel free!

The pattern requires double pointed needles slightly smaller than those you would normally use for a particular yarn. If you have any festive colours of yarn or embellishments like beads or sequins that you would like to bring along, please do! Otherwise, materials and needles are provided and the workshop is free and friendly. Hope you can join us!
