January’s Close Knit

Close Knit at The Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall, Rusholme

Saturday 31st January 2-4PM

Join us for the first session of 2015 as we are inspired by the gallery’s beautiful wedding dresses on display in the ‘Something Blue: Wedding fashions 1914-2014′ exhibition. We will be looking at the construction and shaping of the gowns and paying particular attention to those that feature collars. The shape of a collar can really place a garment in it’s era and allow us to add to an outfit with a retro twist. We will be creating Peter Pan collars that can be worn with a plain jumper to add interest. We will be introducing the (relatively simple) technique of shaping using ‘short rows’- an invaluable addition to your skills if you ever feel the urge to knit some socks or shape a shoulder!

Hope you can make it!

Friendly adult sessions for beginners and experts. Needles and yarn are supplied but feel free to bring your own choice of DK yarn and 4mm needles if you’d prefer.
